  Kep   ( Khmer :   ខេត្តកែប ,   UNGEGN :   Kêb ,   ALA-LC :   Kaep   [kaep] ) is the smallest   province   ( khaet ) of   Cambodia   covering 336 km 2   (130 sq mi), with a population of 41,798.   It is one of the newest Cambodian provinces, together with   Pailin ,   Sihanoukville   and   Tboung Khmum , created by Royal Decree on 22 December 2008, which separated   Kep Municipality   &   Damnak Chang'aeur District   from the   Kampot province , as well as adjusting several provincial borders.   It is both the smallest and least populous province of Cambodia.   Kampong Speu   ( Khmer :   កំពង់ស្ពឺ ,   Kâmpóng Spœ   [kɑmpɔŋ   spɨː] ;   lit.   'Port of   Starfruit ') is a   province   of   Cambodia . It borders the provinces of   Pursat   and   Kampong Chhnang   to the north,   Kandal   to the east,   Takéo   to the southeast,   Kampot   to the south and   Koh Kong   to the west.   Kampot   ( Khmer :   កំពត   [kɑmpɔːt] ,   lit.   'The   Kampot's   Fish') is a   province   in southwestern   Cambodia . It borders the provinces of   Koh Kong   and   Kampong Speu   to the north,   Takéo   to the east,   Kep   and the country of   Vietnam   ( Kiên Giang ) to the south, and   Sihanoukville   to the west.   Kampong Chhnang   ( Khmer :   ខេត្តកំពង់ឆ្នាំង   [kɑmpɔŋ   cʰnaŋ] ; meaning 'Port of Pottery') is one of the central   provinces   ( khaet ) of   Cambodia .   Neak Loeung (also romanized as Nak Loeung, Khmer: អ្នកលឿង) is a busy commercial town in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia. Located on the Mekong and astride National Highway number 1, it is the commune centre for Neak Leung commune and the capital of Peam Ror District. The town can be reached by car ferry from Kampong Phnum in Kandal Province or by boat along the Mekong river. Due to its strategic location, the town and port of Neak Leung has been a significant battleground at various times in Cambodia's history.
